I would like to round a number in Excel to the nearest 5000. For example, if the number is 51285, then I want it to round to 50000. If the number is 53405 then I want it to round to 50000. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

=ROUND(A20/50000,0)*50000 -- __________________________________ HTH Bob

You mean round down, because if you have 53405 and round to the nearest 5000 you would get 55000? To the nearest 5000 =ROUND(A1/5000,0)*5000 round down to the nearest 5000 =FLOOR(A1,5000) -- Regards, Peo Sjoblom

Try one of these: A1 = some number =ROUND(A1/5000,0)*5000 This one requires the Analysis ToolPak add-in be installed if you're using versions of Excel prior to Excel 2007: =MROUND(A1,5000) -- Biff Microsoft Excel MVP

Assuming a typo and you want 53405 -> 55000 then use one of =MROUND(A1,5000) =ROUND(A1/5000,0)*5000 The first requires you have ToolPak loaded unless you are in XL2007 If there is no typo then try =INT(A3/5000)*5000 best wishes -- Bernard V Liengme Microsoft Excel MVP http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme remove caps from email

My fault. I meant to say if the number is 53405 round to the nearest 5000 and you would get 55000. If the number is 52400 round to the nearest 5000 and you would get 50000.

Then as Peo said, =ROUND(A1/5000,0)*5000 -- __________________________________ HTH Bob
